Fundraising Appeal

The Ballarat Synagogue presents ‘160 Years of History in the Making’, dating back to the Victorian goldrush. The Synagogue was heritage listed in 1974. Over the decades the Synagogue has been a hive of activity, running both religious services and taking on an active role in the wider community. With the flourishing life of the Synagogue comes the responsibility of maintenance and heritage preservation for future generations.

To maintain its heritage status, the Ballarat Synagogue requires urgent repair work both inside and outside. This, in turn, requires considerable resources.

How You Can Help

There are many worthy causes to support, often focusing on pressing situations and improving the well-being of people. Our fundraising effort focuses both on the immediate and long-term future of our Synagogue, its preservation for our children, our children’s children and beyond. Our appeal is to conserve this important cultural centre and preserve its unique place in our rich Victorian heritage and history.

  • The Ballarat Hebrew Congregation has obtained Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status for the restoration of its Synagogue and has established a special Ballarat Synagogue Public Fund – donations above $2 are tax deductible. We are also a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.
